I have a 4 yr old that has been vomitng & crying for the last three days. Seems when she goes to school, she gets sick. Now she crys & when we ask her to stop she tells us she can"t I not sure what to think of rhis. Will this fad away?

We suffer from the Whine too.

And it makes us need wine.

We tell him the same thing: "We can't understand you. Stop whining and tell me in your big boy voice."

The problem with giving recognition to the whining is the child learns to communicate this way successfully. I had a whiner once. A book suggested ignoring the behavior and explaining to the child, "I can not hear you until you stop whining." It worked! She is now 12 years old.

Not to burst your bubble or anything, but my four and a half year old still whines. She may be able to understand the logic of "I can't understand you when you whine" but kids defy all logic.

thanks! we've been starting to say "We cannot understand if you whine" and it's been working. I read where kids aroudn 3 1/2 -4 1/2 really understand that logic. Also we explained to our son that he is going to be loosing items if he whines or privileges, such as, television time, some money from his "piggy bank"

My 3 year old is a pro at this too.

Then when he gets his own way he is all smiles.
